It is carried by our Elders, woven into our ceremonies, and held in the hands of those entrusted to protect it. The role of Knowledge Keeper has always been sacred—protecting, preserving, and passing down what must not be lost. Today, that knowledge takes new forms. Data and research are the newest bundles we carry. Mawkim ensures they remain in Mi’kmaw hands, serving Mi’kmaw people.

Mawkim, as part of the Data Governance Team at the Union of Nova Scotia Mi’kmaq (UNSM), supports Mi’kmaw data sovereignty by ensuring communities own, access, and govern their information.
