Our Data is Our Story.

Our Story is Ours to Govern.

Our Story Creates Change.

Our data. Our voice. Our future: L'nu'k led, reclaiming our truth.

Mi’kmaw knowledge is a story, told across generations. It moves through our language, our lands, and our responsibilities to each other. It is carried by our Elders, woven into our ceremonies, and held in the hands of those entrusted to protect it. The role of Knowledge Keeper has always been sacred—protecting, preserving, and passing down what must not be lost. Today, that knowledge takes new forms. Data and research are the newest bundles we carry. Mawkim ensures they remain in Mi’kmaw hands, serving Mi’kmaw people.

We gather knowledge. We safeguard it. We use it to build the future our people deserve.

Mawkim, as part of the Data Governance Team at the Union of Nova Scotia Mi’kmaq (UNSM), supports Mi’kmaw data sovereignty by ensuring communities own, access, and govern their information. The knowledge gathered and shared here strengthens self-determination, transparency, and community-driven action.
