Our Reviewers
With Mi'kmaw Ethics Watch
Protecting Mi’kmaw knowledge with integrity.
Mi’kmaw Ethics Watch (MEW) reviewers are trusted community members who help protect Mi’kmaw voices in research. They come from across Mi’kma’ki, with knowledge and experience in many areas — from education, health, and governance, to language, culture, and traditional ways of knowing.
This diversity ensures that every research application is reviewed through a Mi’kmaw lens, rooted in our values, priorities, and protocols.

Why MEW Reviewers Matter
Being a reviewer means helping to:
- Protect collective Mi’kmaw knowledge, culture, and spirituality
- Ensure research benefits our communities — not just researchers
- Support OCAP® and Mi’kmaw data sovereignty
- Strengthen the role of MEW as a trusted guardian of Mi’kmaw ethics
MEW reviewers are not named publicly. This protects their safety and ensures decisions remain collective — not personal. It also prevents outside pressure or influence.
